Rebuilding this website

Updating the old portfolio, building with AI coding tools, and deleting a few slogans.

I wanted to update my website and keep the older work around. There are interviews here from my journalism years, projects from my work in user research, and material from my teaching. They belong here alongside the newer work.

I built this version with help from AI coding assistants. I’ve wanted to build websites and other tools for a long time, but often felt I didn’t know enough to do it. These tools helped me get started and work through the code.

The site uses Astro and is hosted on GitHub Pages. I used my CCE workshop site as a starting point for the design and borrowed ideas from al-folio for the themes, blog, and news sections. A lot of the work was going through old project files, bringing over interviews, updating my CV, and checking that the links worked.

The AI also wrote some of the copy. That explains why I’ve spent part of this rebuild deleting sentences I would never say out loud. “Technology works better with people first” was one of them. I’d rather tell you what I’m working on.

I’ve added a blog and a news section, so there’s somewhere to put updates without rebuilding the homepage each time. I’ll write about projects, teaching, and things I try along the way.
